As of May 4, 39% of the nation’s winter wheat crop was headed vs 27% last week and 33% average. The winter wheat crop condition rating increased 2% (as expected) to 51% g/e, 31% fair, and 18% p/vp.

As of May 4, spring wheat planting progress was estimated at 44% complete vs 30% last week and 34% average. That was quite a bit lower than 50% to 55% range of trade estimates. Spring wheat emergence was estimated at 13% vs 5% last week and 9% average.

As of May 4, 40% of the nation’s corn crop was planted vs 24% last week and 39% average. That was lower than the 45% to 50% range of trade estimates. Emergence was estimated at 11% vs 5% last week and 9% average.

As of May 4, 30% of the nation’s soybean crop was planted vs 18% last week and 23% average. That was on the low end of trade estimates that ranged from 30% to 35% planted. Soybean emergence was 7% vs. 5% average.

As of May 4, 12% of North Dakota’s canola had been planted vs. 4% last week and 6% average.
